How Alberta selects

Alberta gates on community endorsement, not a public draw

The Rural Entrepreneur Stream is endorsement-first. A participating community must back the business before the EOI is submitted, and AAIP selects from the pool on a points ranking it does not publish.

Endorse. The candidate completes an exploratory visit and submits a Business Proposal Summary; the rural community issues a capped support letter if it backs the plan.

Register. With the support letter in hand, the candidate submits an Expression of Interest to AAIP against the stream criteria.

Select. AAIP scores registrations on a points grid and may invite the highest ranking to file a full Business Application. Draws are not scheduled and cut-offs are not published.

What does the community endorsement actually require?+
An exploratory visit (in person or by video), a Business Proposal Summary, and a business the community agrees serves its economy. The community issues a support letter only if it backs the plan, and the number of letters is capped each year. This is the gate we prepare for first.
Does Alberta run entrepreneur draws with a cut-off score like BC?+
No. AAIP does not run regularly scheduled entrepreneur draws and does not publish cut-off scores. Selection is a points ranking the program keeps internal, with worker streams prioritised in 2026, so the quality of the business case and the endorsement carry the file.
Can my client buy an existing rural business instead of starting one?+
Yes, through business succession, which requires purchasing 100% of an eligible existing business. A new business instead needs at least 51% ownership. The documentation differs, so we scope the route before any drafting begins.
Do you provide immigration advice or file the application?+
